“Fire prevention services are some of the most important services provided by Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 (NFD 1). Through fire safety education, community CPR & First Aid training, and building code enforcement, NFD 1 personnel continuously strive to make our community safer for it’s residents and visitors by educating them and “preventing” emergencies from happening.

Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 provides Paramedic/Advanced Life Support emergency medical response and ambulance transportation services to our community.

Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 personnel also respond to fires, carbon monoxide alarms, hazardous materials incidents, motor vehicle collissions, rope rescues, and ice rescues.

Fire prevention and firefighting tactics, training, equipment installation systems, and more.” to “Niskayuna Fire District No. 1 is served by a combination of dedicated career and volunteer personnel providing a high qualitylocated in the northwest section of the Town of Niskayuna in New York State’s Capital District.

NFD 1 covers approximately 10 square miles within the Town of Niskayuna along the City of Schenectady’s eastern border. Our northern border is the Mohawk River covering south to Village Road and to Onondaga Road on the east border.

NFD 1 operates out of two fire stations. Our headquarters at 1079 Balltown Road is staffed 24-7 by an officer/paramedic and three firefighter/paramedics. It houses an engine, a truck, three ALS ambulances, and a utility vehicle. It is also where our board of fire commissioners and the Grand Boulevard Fire Company meet on a monthly basis. All district administrative activities are performed there. NFD1 also has a sub-station at 2135 River Road that houses an engine and a utility vehicle.

NFD 1 operates two engines, a ladder-tower, three ALS ambulances, two utility vehicles, and three command vehicles.

NFD 1 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year by an officer/paramedic and three firefighter/paramedics. Our Fire Chief works a standard weekday schedule Monday - Friday. When emergency calls go out, our volunteers are summoned and work along side the career staff at all incidents. Our volunteers also support our fire prevention program, cpr classes, and community events throughout the year.
